Michael Civitano (Dean/MD) is thrilled to return to the Rivertown stage! Michael was last seen in Rivertown’s production of Gypsy as a Newsboy (LA) / Music Director. You may also have seen Michael in Assassins (Balladeer/Oswald), Once Upon A Mattress (Minstrel), or in the ensembles of Best Little Whorehouse… , A Funny Thing… , Sister Act, and Mary Poppins at Rivertown.
Michael is a full-time performer, arts educator, music director, and private voice instructor of 40 students. Receiving his BA in Theatre & Business from Muhlenberg College and his Certificate of Physical Theatre from The Accademia Dell’arte in Arezzo, Italy, Michael has been performing both professionally and recreationally for 25+ years. In 2021, he transitioned from the big apple to the big easy to attend UNO’s School of the Arts (SOTA), wherein Michael earned his MFA with Highest Distinction for his graduate thesis on Vocal Anatomy & Pedagogy.
His research has since been published to several academic databases including ProQuest, ScholarWorks, ResearchGate, and the Nat’l University Library Repository. Most recently, Michael Ast. Music Directed Into the Woods at Brother Martin High School, serves as Vocal Director for Church of the King’s Southshore campus, and conducts theatre/vocal workshops online and in-person throughout the GNO and NY areas. When not performing, Michael enjoys the outdoors, his Nonni’s homemade Italian cooking, and quality time with his friends & family.
